Tyrod Taylor will start for the New York Jets against the Baltimore Ravens.

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is benching QB Justin Fields for Tyrod Taylor this week against the Baltimore Ravens.

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Glenn opened up about the tough decision.

"It was purely my decision," Glenn said. "I thought it was the time to do it. I had good conversations with both of those guys. These situations are not always easy but as a head coach you have do what's best for the team. I felt like it was best for the team."

The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract. The Ohio State product has played in nine games this season. He has 1,259 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, one interception, 383 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

New York is 2-8 on the season. The team is last in the NFL in passing yards per game.

"You want your passing game to be better," Glenn said. "And that's not totally on [Fields]. There are a number of things that go into that -- that's myself, that's the routes that are run, that's dropped balls, that's including him. And at this point, I just feel like we have to do something to get this team going offensively in the passing game. And I just felt like it was time to make that decision."

All signs point toward the Jets cutting Fields this offseason. Fields, who has played for the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers as well, will likely be a backup QB for the rest of his NFL career.

Taylor, who began his career with the Ravens, has appeared in three games this season. He has 379 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and three interceptions.

Taylor has 12,633 passing yards and 71 passing touchdowns in the NFL. He's a better passer than Fields, who can't process defenses quick enough and holds onto the ball too long.

The Jets will miss the playoffs again this season. They are expected to draft a quarterback in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
