The New York Jets just can't help themselves.
The New York Jets fell to 0-5 on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Dallas Cowboys, 37-22, in a game that was not nearly as close as the final score may have indicated.
The Jets were behind 30-6 in the fourth quarter and scored a couple of meaningless garbage-time touchdowns to boost their offensive numbers, but in reality, New York was absolutely dominated by the Cowboys from start to finish.
During the loss, the Jets achieved yet another embarrassing feat.
New York's defense was a top-4 unit in the NFL from 2022 through 2024. This season, the Jets have absolutely fallen off a cliff on that side of the ball.
You can't always measure a defense by takeaways, as being too opportunistic is a dangerous way to live. But it's not like New York is stopping its opponents, either.
The Jets surrendered 416 total yards to Dallas in Week 5, with 292 of those yards coming during the first half. Cowboys running back Javonte Williams racked up 135 yards on 8.2 yards per carry against Gang Green, and New York's best defensive players continued to be largely non-existent.
Where is Sauce Gardner? Where is Quinnen Williams? The former has been getting burned throughout the season as his concerning regression since last year continues, and the latter does not even resemble the game-wrecking force that made three straight Pro Bowl appearances the past three seasons.
It hasn't been a great look for first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, the former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator who was hoping to change Jets culture.
That obviously has not happened, as Glenn is off to the worst start for a debut coach in New York's franchise history. It's also the worst start for the Jets in general since 2020, when they ended up going 0-13 before finally recording a win.
This team is simply bad in all facets. The Jets have no direction offensively, their defense is a a shell of what it once was and their special teams have also been a disaster.
New York will now head overseas to prepare to face the Denver Broncos in London next Sunday before getting into the much easier part of its schedule ... not that it matters.
