Considering the New York Jets will have multiple first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, there's a very good opportunity for them to go out there and make the necessary moves to improve on multiple fronts. It's evident that the Jets will be looking for a quarterback if one is there that they love, but they can also go out and add talent for a quarterback.
Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network recently had them doing just that, predicting that the Jets would select Denzel Boston, a wide receiver out of Washington, with the 28th pick. The No. 28 pick at the moment would be the one that they landed from the deal with Sauce Gardner going to the Indianapolis Colts.
“The wide receiver position — aside from Garrett Wilson — has been a massive problem for the Jets for multiple years on end now. It’s time for New York to aggressively address the issue. Denzel Boston is one such first-round target who can help them accomplish that.
“At 6’4″, 209 pounds, Boston is a plus-size threat on the boundary, who can reliably win 50-50 balls with his steely focus, vice-grip hand strength, and savvy control of catch-point positioning — but he’s also a fairly smooth separator and RAC threat in space,” he wrote.
Boston obviously isn't the best wide receiver in this class, but he's also been very good throughout his college career.
It would be better if the Jets could land someone like Carnell Tate or Jordan Tyson, but Boston isn't a bad consolation prize. He currently has 52 receptions for 730 yards and eight touchdowns. I also like the fact that he's a bigger wide receiver, as that's always a positive in the NFL.
While adding a wide receiver would be a wise decision if the Jets found the quarterback they want, it's a lot more important if they go out and do what's necessary on the quarterback front to ensure they have an opportunity to land someone who can get them the football.
If the Jets don't draft the quarterback they want, it's probably a better idea to not select a wide receiver with a first-round pick, unless they land someone they absolutely love.
