There’s so much that can happen for the New York Jets during the NFL Draft that it’s almost impossible to predict what the organization might decide to do. We can go down a long list of what the Jets need, but that doesn’t mean the front office agrees with that.

Obviously, in a perfect world, the Jets would find a quarterback in one of the early rounds of this upcoming draft and eventually have that player be the guy who puts them over the top. If there’s one thing New York has been missing for much of its existence, especially over the past few decades, it’s been a quarterback who can make plays for them in big moments and help the team remain competitive.

At this point, even if the Jets landed a system quarterback who can do what’s needed to get them to a 10-plus win team each season, everybody would take it. It isn’t even about winning a Super Bowl right now.

And according to Tom Pelissero, it’s possible that the Jets could go in that direction. He reported that a lot of people like what general manager Darren Mougey has done in New York, but for him to continue getting the respect he has shown he deserves so far, it’ll likely require him to look at every quarterback option.

"Darren Mougey has earned a lot of respect in the league over this past year based on how he's conducting business, people have found him to be very transparent, people have found him to be very smart about how he's doing it," Pelissero said.

"You don't quite frankly always hear that about first-time general managers and a lot of people didn't really know Darren well. But I've talked to so many people who we talk to in various negotiations and things who all came around with a pretty strong sense of this guy is impressive in terms of what he's doing here. He owes it to himself, to the Jets organization, to Aaron Glenn, to Woody [Johnson] to say we're going to dig in on every single one of these guys because you don't know. Yes, your percentages are higher taking a guy in the first round in terms of success rate, but half those guys fail, too. Your percentages are much lower in those later rounds, but there are Brock Purdy's out there, there are Tom Brady's".

Considering the draft is now just days away, there isn’t much more for the Jets and Mougey to look at. Perhaps they tried to speak with a few agents before the draft to gauge how players are thinking about playing in New York, but the bulk of the scouting has been done at this point.

If the Jets go the quarterback route, there are some intriguing names at the end of the first round and possibly in the later rounds for them to consider.
