With the New York Jets being on the clock with the No. 2 overall pick, there are a lot of questions about what the organization might decide to do. The Jets clearly need to hit this pick out of the park if they want to improve on either side of the football, but it sounds like no matter who they go with, it'll be on the defensive side of things.
The Jets understand that the quarterback of the future isn't sitting there with the second overall pick, so taking whoever they believe is the best player available, no matter the side of the football, should be the plan.
According to the latest, it sounds like there are still some questions about what could happen between David Bailey and Arvell Reese, though Reese is now believed to still be the favorite, despite some intrigue about Bailey over the past few days.
“It is most likely down to two players if the Jets stick at No. 2 — with an outside shot that they shock everyone and draft a position that typically doesn’t go this high. Let’s break it down by percentage: Who is going to be the Jets’ pick if they stick at No. 2?
“Despite the late wind blowing in Bailey’s direction as the likely pick at No. 2, Reese still feels like the favorite. Remember: It was around this time in 2024 that the Jets purportedly were locked into taking tight end Brock Bowers, and he was on the board when they instead picked left tackle Olu Fashanu. Same in 2025 with Tyler Warren, who was available when they selected right tackle Armand Membou,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic wrote.
If I were the Jets, I'd probably take Reese, but I also understand the intrigue of Bailey. Not to say that Bailey won't be as good as Reese, but I do think Reese has the tools to be a generational type of edge rusher. That's very important in the NFL, so I'd go in that direction if I were the Jets.
