The New York Jets have done what was needed early in free agency, landing a quarterback, too, but there are still some needs. One of the issues with the Jets, though, is whether they want to spend more or trade assets to land a player when they’ll likely struggle this season.
While much of the attention has centered on the team’s quarterback situation and assets, the wide receiver room is horrible outside of Garrett Wilson.
According to ESPN insider Rich Cimini, help is coming, though, and Jets fans should be excited about what could come.
“The Jets will add two receivers before this offseason is over,” Cimini wrote.
“The Jets hit most of their short-term needs in the first wave of free agency, with one notable exception, wide receiver. They have Garrett Wilson and a lot of question marks, which makes this a primary need in next month’s draft. With the 16th pick, they could have a shot at Jordyn Tyson or Makai Lemon. Also, look for them to add a veteran to the mix. Look at the trade market. Darren Mougey loves to make trades. Especially keep an eye on those [Jacksonville] Jaguars, where Brian Thomas Jr could be on the trading block. Also, the [Denver] Broncos, after acquiring Jaylen Waddle in a big trade, perhaps a player there [is] expendable. Maybe a Marvin Mims Jr or a Troy Franklin,” Cimini said, H/T Heavy.com.
Adding a rookie and a veteran would be a lot of fun, especially if said rookie is a potential star. This draft class has some interesting wide receiver options, but the Jets likely won’t want to take one at No. 2.
Brian Thomas Jr. of the Jacksonville Jaguars would be the most fun of the bunch. It remains uncertain if the Jaguars would move on from him, but reports had indicated that they didn’t want to as of now.
Putting a duo together of Thomas and Wilson would be a great watch. However, there will be other options out there for the Jets, so they should be fine, no matter who they go with.
