Jets Fall to Lions in Week 3 Despite Strong Offensive Performance

The New York Jets fell to 1-2 with a 31-24 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 3. The Jets offense showed some great flashes, but their defense couldn't get enough stops, and Geno Smith couldn't lead New York on a game-tying drive at the end of regulation.

While it's a rough loss, the Jets have some positive takeaways from this game. Their offense looked dynamic as Smith completed 31 of 37 passes for 321 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Smith had a great connection with his young weapons as Garrett Wilson had 10 receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown, while rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq had seven receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.

It was Wilson's best game of the season thus far, showing that he can still be one of the best weapons on the outside. Sadiq also had a career day in the third game of his rookie campaign, proving that he could develop into an elite weapon.

The run game struggled for New York, with Breece Hall rushing for just 32 yards on 13 carries before leaving the game with a thigh injury.

The Jets can build on this passing attack for the remainder of the season, with veteran Smith connecting with the young weapons.

On defense, New York had some big plays, with Demario Davis and Andre Cisco each recording a sack. However, they struggled to get stops against Detroit's explosive offense. Jared Goff completed 25 of 32 passes for 269 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

Star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown brought in one of those touchdowns, but it was running back Jahmyr Gibbs who stole the show, rushing for 99 yards and two touchdowns while catching seven passes for 65 yards and a touchdown.

The Jets have been in close games the last two weeks against the Green Bay Packers and the Lions, and despite keeping it tight, they've been unable to come away with victories.

New York will look to build upon a great game from Smith and the passing attack and establish the run game in Week 4 to create a more balanced offense. The Jets defense will also need a bounce-back game after playing well in the first two weeks of the season.

If New York can put it all together, they could shock some teams, come up with wins, and finish with a better record than they did in 2025.
