Jets First-Round Pick Draws Bold Words From NFL Insider cover image

The New York Jets building one of the promising offensive lines is flying under the radar around NFL circles.

NFL Insider and personality Jordan Schultz posted on X, praising the Jets’ two young tackles in Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou.

Fashanu, who currently serves as New York’s left tackle, was drafted in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 11th overall.

Left tackle is arguably one of football’s most important positions, due to them being one of the few lines of defense for the quarterback’s blind side.

Against the Steelers in the season opener, Fashanu posted a 62.5 grade on PFF and allowed only one sack with zero penalties committed.

There’s still some work that needs to be done as a pass blocker, as he graded with a 43.7. However, he excelled in run blocking with a 67.1 grade, which shouldn’t come off as a surprise given how exceptional running back Breece Hall performed.

On the other side of the line, Membou was drafted seventh overall in the 2025 Draft, and he’s drawn significant praise not just from Schultz, but other media outlets.

Membou was given the near-impossible task at covering All-Pro defensive end T.J. Watt, and he performed at a level you’d expect from a seasoned veteran.

He allowed zero pressures on 26 pass-blocking snaps. Not only that, he was given the highest offensive PFF grade on the Jets and the sixth highest in all of the league with an 89.0.

No surprise, he was also the best run blocker on the team with a 90.3 grade, and ranked with a 78.3 pass block grade.

When starting guard Alijah Vera-Tucker was ruled out for the season prior to Week 1, you could certainly feel a weight get put back on Jets fans shoulders.

If a team is supposed to emphasize the run, how can they run the ball efficiently without its premium right guard?

It’s simple, push starting center Joe Tippmann to the right, and slot Josh Myers in the middle. It was an unstoppable unit, helping the team rush for 182 yards all game, and didn’t allow a punt all first half – an achievement that hasn’t been done in team history since 1991.

Is it possible the Jets already have one of the best offensive lines in the game? After what we saw against Pittsburgh, it’s certainly not out of the question. You build a successful franchise from the trenches, and build out.

And with Fashanu and Membou guarding the edges, Gang Green has the potential to be a major force for the first time in a long time.
