It's a very exciting time for the New York Jets and multiple players on their roster, even if things haven't exactly gone as planned over the past few years. As the Jets look at their current roster, there's reason to believe they can be much better than they typically are. It's also important to note that New York has had some injury issues over the past few seasons.
While last year didn't go as planned, it doesn't help that Garrett Wilson barely played.
Of course, we can also look at the fact that Wilson still led the team in yards, despite playing in a few games, which was the bigger problem for New York's offense. The Jets' biggest problem over the past few seasons is that they haven't been able to get anything going on the offensive side of the football. Wilson, however, has been one of a few players who have actually done what he's needed to do.
Unfortunately, other factors explain why he doesn't get the same accolades and recognition as players he might be better than in the league. In fact, Wilson is probably underrated in the sense of not having these accolades. NFL.com recently predicted that could change this season, though, even predicting he could be a first-time Pro Bowler.
“Garrett Wilson makes so many highlight-reel catches that it’s always a surprise to see he’s never been on a Pro Bowl squad. Thanks to quarterback struggles, the star wideout’s production has always been curtailed. Last year, injuries wiped out all but seven games.
“Couple that with a woeful passing attack, and Williams netted just 395 yards and four scores. He’s in for a massive bounce-back. The Jets' offense has more weapons entering 2026, and Geno Smith, while not the perfect QB, will give Wilson plenty of chances to rack up yards,” Kevin Patra of NFL.com wrote.
Seeing Wilson get a Pro Bowl nod would be incredible for many reasons. For one, it would mean he gets personal accolades he deserves.
At the same time, if he were to be named a Pro Bowler, it should also mean that the Jets played at a much higher level than we think. We don't typically see teams that have one of the worst offenses in the NFL have wide receivers named to the Pro Bowl (there won’t be a game anymore), so that would be a promising step in the right direction for New York.
