New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith was handed a poor grade for his performance this week.

The New York Jets fell to 1-3 on the new NFL season, dropping their Week 4 game against the Chicago Bears.

New York couldn't muster up much offense the entire game, with the Bears' defense stifling them throughout the contest. It was a poor performance from the Jets, adding to the frustration of a season that started off on a high note.

One of the more telling stats from the game was that the Bears were able to get more first downs than the Jets had offensive plays. Overall, this just won't get the job done for any team, and New York will be heading back to the drawing board next week.

But one part of the game that was concerning was the play of quarterback Geno Smith. Smith finished the contest throwing for 119 yards and a touchdown, limiting what the offense could do the entire game.

Due to his lackluster performance, Smith was given a letter grade of "D" against the Bears by NFL analyst Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report. Sobleski handed out grades for every quarterback in the league, with Smith's performance being one of the worst.

Smith looked very good a week ago against the Detroit Lions, but he fell back down to earth against Chicago. The Bears have a much better defense than Detroit, and this group was able to make life tough on Smith the entire game.

New York was without star running Breece Hall for the contest, and this likely played in everything for the offensive performance. The Jets have relied heavily on Hall to help set the tone in the rushing attack, which opens up the passing game for Smith.

But Smith didn't make any excuses for his performance against Chicago, taking responsibility for the outing. The veteran signal-caller knows that he can play better and will try to put together a better performance next week.

New York now sits with a record of 1-3 on the season, with them dropping three straight games. 2026 has been an inconsistent year for the Jets, with the offense and defense performing well separately each week.

But there is still a lot of time left for the Jets to turn the season around, and there has been positives to come out of the year so far. The Jets will be hosting the Cleveland Browns this coming week, offering themselves a chance to take down an upset 3-1 team at home.
