Geno has said a lot of good, but winning must come.
It was a really impressive day for the New York Jets' offense on Sunday, with quarterback Geno Smith playing one of the best games of his NFL career.
Smith was a ridiculous 31 of 37 for 321 yards and three touchdowns, showing that he still has a lot left in the tank.
If Smith can continue to play this type of football throughout the remainder of the year, the Jets are going to find themselves in a really good position to win a lot of games. Unfortunately, however, the Jets just weren't able to get the job done and win the game.
It'll be interesting to see how they respond to some of these losses, but if Smith continues to do what he's been doing, New York is going to compete, and there's something to be said about that. Speaking to reporters about taking that next step, though, it doesn't sound like anybody in the organization is too happy with how things went on Sunday against the Lions.
In fact, while showing appreciation for what Glenn has been able to do for the team in preparing them, Smith added that the team eventually has to win these games. The guys are playing really good football, but part of this is finding ways to win the game.
"He's [Glenn] done a great job preparing us," Smith said, per the team. "There's always a lot of things that we can do better, and most importantly, we need to win these games.
"We have a lot of resilient guys and we have a lot of really good players, but again, we need to finish games."
Glenn shared similar thoughts, adding that his team is right there.
Whether that's ultimately the case remains to be seen, and it also remains to be seen how much longer the Jets are going to let their team be that close. At the end of the day, the job is to win games, and the Jets have only done that once in three weeks so far.
"These guys are going to fight, and it's a belief system also," Glenn said. "Our guys believe all the work that was put in in OTAs and training camp, man. We're right here [showing thumb and index finger again], and our guys know it's this gap right here that we got to close."'
