It was a very impressive opening weekend for the New York Jets, coming away with a win against the Tennessee Titans.
The Jets weren't favorites to win, at least according to Vegas, but it was a game we all knew they should have won. Let's be honest now: the Jets are a better team than the Titans, and I'm glad that Sunday proved that.
However, as we've seen in years past with this organization, just because the Jets might be better than a team on paper doesn't mean they'll win the game.
I'm glad to see the Jets come out and take care of business, and a lot of that was because of what they did on offense. Quarterback Geno Smith wasn't perfect by any means, but he was decent, and frankly, that's just about what the Jets need right now.
With some of the offensive weapons they have, including Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, as well as some of the young guys who really impressed me, like Kenyon Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr. before going down, Smith doesn't need to be perfect.
Speaking to reporters after the game, he sounded thankful to still be in New York, despite all the drama in the past. In his second stint, he's just thankful to be playing good football and helping his team get a win.
"It just feels like football," Smith said of his return to the Jets, who opened the season with a dominating 23-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans at Nissan Stadium, per ESPN. "It felt great to be out there with the guys and chasing the goal, which is 1-0."
Perhaps the biggest factor of the day was Garrett Wilson, who continued to show why he's undoubtedly one of the better players in the NFL at the wide receiver position. After missing much of last season, appearing in just seven games, Wilson came out and did exactly what he was expected to do.
"He was calm, man," said Wilson, who led the team with six catches for 79 yards. "He was just like he is every day we see him -- in control, calm, captain of our team, and not to mention he was precise. I'll say that about Geno. He had a good day."
Coming back from an injury is no easy task for any player in the NFL, especially a guy like Wilson, who understands how much he has to continue to show on the offensive side of things.
