One of the top priorities for the New York Jets on Thursday night will be figuring out what they want to do in the wide receiver room. The Jets have done a rather decent job in the draft over the past few years, but they need to do a bit more if they want to be the team they're looking to be.
That will all start on Thursday night, as head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey will have every opportunity in the world to improve this roster. Not doing so would be a major red flag, as they likely won't have a better chance to do so unless this team is horrible once again and has one of the top picks in next year's draft.
Regardless, adding some talent around their stars is certainly a priority, and the expectation around the NFL is for the Jets to figure that out. When searching for what that could mean, one of the top insiders in New York wrote about what it could end up being. He added that Denzel Boston and Omar Cooper are two potential options to play next to Garrett Wilson.
“If the Jets do trade back, this feels like a better range to target one of the next two best wide receivers on most boards: Cooper and Washington’s Denzel Boston. Both bring a different flavor — Boston is a big-bodied, 50/50-ball outside receiver who fits the mold of what offensive coordinator Frank Reich usually prefers. Cooper feels like a more dynamic, versatile option, even if he’s on the smaller side (6-foot, 199). His ability to play the slot and outside would give the Jets more wiggle room to move him and Wilson around the formation.
“Cooper forced 27 missed tackles after the catch in 2025 and accounted for 30 plays of 20-plus yards last season,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic wrote.
The Jets have to be smart in what they do for a few different reasons, but drafting a wide receiver who doesn't fit well next to Wilson would be the bigger concern here.
The positive part is that Wilson is so good that the Jets can technically add almost anybody around him who has a ton of skills like these two players, and they should be more than fine. It'll be interesting to see which one gets selected, but if I had to put money on it, I'd say that Omar Cooper would be the man in New York.
