Talk about an ugly showing in the past decade.
It hasn't been a perfect season for the New York Jets, to say the least, at 2-3, but there have been some promising signs, and for a Jets organization that hasn't had many of those in the past, I don't think we should view this season as a bad one by any means.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of performances the Jets put up over the next couple of weeks, but there's reason to believe this is a decent team. Even if the Jets aren't a playoff squad, there's still hope they can finally get wins.
I know everybody is focused on getting a better draft pick than what they currently have, though it's important to remember that the Jets also hold the Dallas Cowboys' and Indianapolis Colts' picks for this year.
If the Jets want a franchise quarterback and believe they can find one in the upcoming draft, they should have more than enough ammo.
I also believe it's time to start winning games, as history isn't on the Jets' side, and that's as big an issue as many have made it seem.
Recently, looking at some of that Jets history, their prior showings against the AFC East have been flat-out embarrassing, and there's no other way to put it. If this organization is going to do anything in the future, things like this absolutely have to change.
“The Jets begin that quest again this week with a trip to Foxborough to face the Patriots. Gillette Stadium has been a horrible place for the Jets to play through the years. They have one win there in the last 16 seasons.
“For the Jets to become a contender, they are going to have to conquer their division demons. The Jets are 13-47 against AFC East opponents in the last 10 years (since 2016). They are 4-26 in division road games. The last time they had a winning record in the division was 2010 when they made their last trip to the playoffs. The Jets are 0-6 against the AFC East under Aaron Glenn, going 0-for last year against the Bills, Patriots and Dolphins,” Brian Costello of the New York Post wrote.
While there are obviously a lot to consider, especially the fact that the Jets have had some really bad teams with even worse quarterback play, the bigger issue is that New York hasn't been able to win games.
At some point, the organization needs to find a way to win these games, even if it means a worse draft pick or something else.
