The New York Jets’ search for wide receiver help is one of the more interesting storylines of the offseason now, and one of the more intriguing names now being floated is Dallas Cowboys star George Pickens. While adding a player of his caliber would come at a high cost, it’s worth the price. I understand that the Jets need a quarterback, but I’d be content with taking a swing on a star WR and figuring out the rest.

With Garrett Wilson currently leading a depth chart filled with many bad players, the Jets have been widely expected to explore multiple avenues, including the trade market, to upgrade the position.

Bleacher Report recently connected the Jets to the talented wideout, outlining both the potential reward and the risks involved in pursuing a deal.

“Between trade capital and a new contract, the price would be steep, which is why Pickens falls in the middle of our list. However, the potential reward could be massive. Pickens is just entering his playing prime and finished last season with 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns.

“There would be risk involved with signing Pickens to an offer sheet, considering the cost and the maturity concerns that forced him away from the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, it could be worth considering for teams with a surplus of cap space and a need at receiver, like the New York Jets and New England Patriots,” Kristopher Knox wrote.

Just turning 25 years old, he’s already proven he can perform at a high level, putting up 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns last season. The interesting part here is his age, too. I feel like most think that Pickens is a lot older than he actually is. Wilson is older than him.

However, the concerns are more than fair. Any team acquiring Pickens would not only need to give up meaningful assets, but also commit financially with a new deal. We also have to consider the attitude and problems he has on the field at times.

Still, I’m not too worried about that just yet. Talent has to go over everything else at some point.
