Jets May Not Select Quarterback in First-Round of 2026 NFL Draft cover image

It’s fair to question what the New York Jets are going to do with the number of draft picks they have moving forward, but there are a lot of benefits when you look at what the Jets have done over the past month. With the moves they made at the trade deadline, the Jets are in just as good a position as any team in the NFL to go out and land a star quarterback.

However, if the Jets don’t love a quarterback in this 2026 NFL Draft class, there’s a very good chance they won’t find the one they’re looking for and decide to save some of those picks for 2027.

That would be in the event that the Jets don’t want to trade the 2027 first-round picks they have to move up.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, however, it’s very possible that the Jets will look to do that as soon as possible, as it seems like some understand this is a business that requires them to get good as soon as possible.

"Rich Cimini, Jets reporter: The NFL is an ASAP business, but there are several variables that will determine whether the Jets draft a QB in 2026 or kick the can down the road to 2027," Cimini wrote

"Remember, they have three first-round picks in 2027, and that QB crop is said to be superior to the 2026 group. Ultimately, it will likely come down to their level of conviction in players such as Mendoza, Moore, and Simpson. Key question: Can coach Aaron Glenn and GM Darren Mougey -- both of whom will be under pressure to win in 2026 -- afford to postpone their rebuild another season while they wait for a quarterback? That might be a stretch."

Aaron Glenn may want to use a first-round pick on a quarterback this year, mainly due to him understanding that if he doesn’t find a quarterback in the next few months, he could lose his job.

That’ll be something to watch, but I hope Woody Johnson and others aren’t pressuring him into something he doesn’t want. Ultimately, this takes time, and if the Jets don’t love who’s out there, they shouldn’t force something.
