The New York Jets closed in yet another trade deadline move, but it wasn't able to get done.

The New York Jets rocked the NFL landscape when they traded both cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive tackle Quinnen Williams at the trade deadline, and apparently, they tried swinging another blockbuster deal, as well.

Connor Hughes of SNY has reported that the Jets fielded trade offers for running back Breece Hall and received a fourth-round offer from the Kansas City Chiefs, but that New York held firm on its desire for a third-round draft pick.

Hall himself told the Jets he wanted to be dealt, but obviously, New York did not feel it was getting the necessary compensation in return.

The 24-year-old is slated to hit free agency after the season, and the Jets stand to reap a compensatory draft pick — potentially as a third-rounder — if he signs elsewhere. However, New York would to lose more players than it signs in free agency for the pick to manifest, and even if that happened, the pick would not convey until 2027.

Of course, it also stands to reason that the Jets may wish to re-sign Hall during the offseason. He is young enough to be part of their rebuild, and he has actually been one of New York's lone bright spots this season, having rushed for 581 yards and a couple of touchdowns on five yards per carry in seven games.

Hall was originally selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. His rookie campaign ended halfway through due to a torn ACL, but the following year, he rushed for 994 yards and five scores on 4.5 yards per attempt while also hauling in 76 receptions for 591 yards and four touchdowns.

The Iowa State product was tabbed as a potential breakout candidate heading into 2024 as a result, but Hall ultimately disappointed, finishing with 876 yards and five touchdowns while averaging just 4.2 yards per tote.

It will be interesting to see how the Jets manage their backfield going into next season. Braelon Allen is currently on injured reserve, but Isaiah Davis has shown flashes in 2025. It stands to reason that New York could turn over the reins to both young halfbacks next fall.

The Jets are 1-7 on the year and will face the Cleveland Browns this Sunday.
