After the latest news that Brendan Sorsby was denied reinstatement for eligibility by the NCAA for the 2026 season, many are starting to question whether he has a real opportunity to land in the supplemental draft.

As things currently stand, there seems to be a very real chance that he's going to end up being available, though there hasn't been a supplemental draft in quite some years now.

Fortunately for some teams around the NFL, having a supplemental draft could be a big-time benefit, as the New York Jets, among others, would have a chance to land a potential future quarterback at a price they wouldn't have paid had he been in a normal NFL Draft.

According to the latest from Jets X Factor, the Jets would have the top claim for Sorsby, though they still believe they have to be cautious about some of his off-the-field issues.

“Teams place bids on players in the supplemental draft using selections in next year’s NFL draft. Teams that finished the previous season with six or fewer wins have the top claim, followed by other non-playoff teams, and, lastly, teams that made the postseason the year prior. This is where the New York Jets come into play.

“The Jets, who won three games last year, would have the top claim if there were a supplemental draft this summer, which would mark the first one since 2019. If Sorsby does, in fact, enter the draft, the Jets would have an opportunity to add an intriguing quarterback prospect in Sorsby at a much cheaper rate than what he would go for in the draft next April… However, the Jets or any team interested in him would also have to be cautious about the off-field concerns. It is a particularly important consideration for the Jets, who last year made a point to distance themselves from the Aaron Rodgers experiment and the distractions that came with it,” Connor Long of Jets X Factor wrote.

Reports indicated that Sorsby recently underwent a 35-day treatment program after the gambling situation. That's never anything to play around with, so hopefully, even from a non-football standpoint, the young man figures some things out.

On the field, though, Sorsby is a very good player, and the Jets are always looking to add those. If they can ensure that nothing is going on off the field, there's no debate that they should at least give him a look.
