A few months ago, there seemed to be a feeling that the New York Jets were going to end up with Oregon quarterback Dante Moore. Unfortunately for the Jets, if they wanted him, Moore decided to return to Oregon, a decision that almost felt like he was avoiding them.
He was the expected No. 2 pick, and the Jets held that second pick.
Whether that was the reason or not never actually came out, but there isn't much of a reason to go back to college when you were projected second overall, even if NIL money is somehow as big as an NFL contract, which would be extremely unlikely for a second pick, though nobody really knows the exact figure some of these guys are getting paid at the highest level in the college ranks.
If Moore was looking to avoid the Jets, the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report wouldn't see him do that. Instead, he'd still end up in New York, though some believe this is now a better opportunity for him to succeed at the level that he wants at the highest level.
“Dante Moore was the projected second overall pick for the 2025 draft class, but he decided to take a swing at furthering his development with one more season at Oregon. However, he did not avoid being drafted by the New York Jets. In this instance, the timing would be much better. The Jets pieced together a strong draft class this past weekend, addressing multiple needs and improving their overall talent pool. This iteration of the team is more equipped to draft a quarterback and expect them to perform well. Moore is an accurate passer with above-average mobility, extending plays and picking up first downs. His Achilles' heel is handling pressure. Hopefully, he takes the necessary steps to achieve better results during the upcoming campaign. The Jets' offensive line would help keep him clean in the pocket,” Brent Sobleski of BR wrote.
The Jets had an excellent draft, and I'm very excited to see what the organization might look like moving forward with some of this talent.
However, if there has been one thing that's been a problem in New York over the past decade, it's not winning games. We have to see New York do something before I can say this rookie class is going to be a culture changer for this organization.
