Passing up on Manning could be a brutal outcome.
The New York Jets will have a slew of options in the 2027 NFL Draft, given they currently hold three picks alongside the Dallas Cowboys and the Indianapolis Colts.
The easiest thing for the Jets to do would be to draft a quarterback that they love with whatever pick they have first, though there's also an argument to be made that if the Jets can package those three picks and either move up to select a quarterback or go out and trade those picks for a franchise-caliber guy, it would make sense.
Regardless, whichever direction the Jets take in next year's draft, it has to be the right one.
Fans won't wait much longer for this team to figure out the quarterback situation, as we're already past a decade.
It'll be interesting to see which direction the Jets want to go in the upcoming draft, since there's an argument that if Arch Manning is available, they should select him.
He's certainly not what many expected coming out of high school, but he looks to have a lot of tools that could help him succeed in the NFL.
At the same time, calling him a guaranteed draft prospect would be completely unfair right now.
There are moments when he looks very, very good, and others when he looks about average. However, one writer isn't too worried about that, recently predicting the Jets to take him fourth overall in next year's draft.
“The pick: Arch Manning, QB, Texas
“Geno Smith has been a pleasant surprise over the first month of the season for the Jets. Sure, the Jets are just 1-3, but they’ve been competitive while Smith plays efficient and turnover-free football. Still, the soon-to-be 36-year-old shouldn’t be viewed as the long-term quarterback for a Jets team that appears to be making all the right moves for the first time in a while.
“Arch Manning’s “fall” from the top pick doesn’t mean he’s been bad, but he is showing the same growing pains as he did a year ago. Still, the box score is far less flattering to Manning’s 2026 campaign than it’s actually been, and I’m still in on the legacy quarterback. With the weapons that the Jets have managed to put around their offense, Manning should have no trouble making friends and creating big plays out of the gate,” Richie Bradshaw wrote.
It feels like if Manning does fall to fourth overall, the Jets should be interested in that selection.
Again, Manning has things to work on, but New York has to figure out the quarterback position, and passing on a Manning just to watch him become a superstar would be the nail in the coffin for this organization.
The Jets have had a lot of issues in the past, but not selecting a Manning to take a chance on another quarterback, and having Arch end up as that guy, would be a very bad sign.
