The Jets would be taking a fair risk here.
With three first-round picks in this upcoming draft class, the New York Jets are in a better position than any team in the NFL to land the quarterback they want.
As of now, there hasn't been a quarterback in the 2027 draft class who looks great. The Jets have a couple of options, namely guys like Arch Manning, Dante Moore, and CJ Carr, among others, but saying any of those three has been perfect all season would be wrong.
Regardless, if the Jets believe they need a quarterback in the upcoming draft class, they have more than enough assets to either trade up or find someone they like. They have a few interesting options, including the possibility of selecting the best player available. ESPN recently released one of its latest mock drafts, suggesting the Jets will go after a quarterback with their first pick.
That pick would be No. 7 from the Dallas Cowboys, a team that hasn't played well in the first six weeks of the season.
"CJ Carr, QB, Notre Dame
“The early returns suggest the Jets went 3-for-3 with their trio of first-rounders in 2026 (edge rusher David Bailey, tight end Kenyon Sadiq and receiver Omar Cooper Jr.), allowing those players to take a massive step forward in 2027. Carr would be their attempt to solve the biggest long-term problem, which is finding a solution under center -- 36-year-old Geno Smith is currently on a one-year deal.
“In two seasons at Notre Dame, Carr has shown a strong ability to handle pre-snap duties and process quickly, while also being a mechanically sound and talented thrower. He's at his best operating from the pocket, but he's dangerous enough with his legs to keep a defense honest (six rushing touchdowns since the start of last season),” Field Yates wrote.
I do like what Carr has shown at Notre Dame, but again, he really doesn't feel like a can't-miss draft prospect by any means. He'd come into New York with many of the same questions that we've seen out of a couple of other guys over the past couple of years now.
That's something the Jets will ultimately have to work around either way, since development is key, and they haven't done a great job of it over the past few decades.
I also think there's a scenario where the Jets don't even go after a quarterback in next year's first round and try to move some of those picks for a player who has already proven something in the NFL. Perhaps those picks get used to make a trade for a quarterback, but I could see the Jets going a different direction than the college route, so to say.
