Jets Predicted to Replace Breece Hall With 1,200-Yard RB cover image

The New York Jets are being predicted to replace Breece Hall with a 1,200-yard running back this offseason.

The New York Jets opted not to trade running back Breece Hall at the NFL trade deadline, deciding to take their chances with Hall in free agency.

The Jets will be armed with mammoth cap space heading into the offseason, so they could certainly afford to keep Hall if they so desired.

The question is, does Hall himself want to return to New York?

If Hall departs, the Jets will either have to rely on the young backfield tandem of Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis or find a replacement, and Bleacher Report's Alex Kay is projecting them to ultimately land Dallas Cowboys halfback Javonte Williams on a three-year, $20 million contract.

"The New York Jets make plenty of sense as a landing spot for the five-year veteran," Kay wrote. "Gang Green will likely be in the market for a Breece Hall replacement this spring and could replicate a good chunk of their star's production at a cheaper cost via Williams."

Williams has racked up 1,201 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 4.8 yards per carry in a surprising 2025 campaign. Additionally, he has caught 35 passes for 137 yards and a couple of scores.

The 25-year-old spent the first four years of his career with the Denver Broncos and got off to a strong start during his rookie season in 2021, registering 903 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Injuries then limited him to just four games the following year, and from that point on, William was never the same in Denver.

The Broncos ultimately released Williams last March, when he proceeded to sign a one-year deal with Dallas. Now, the former second-round pick has set himself up for a rather nice pay day this coming offseason.

Williams is similar to Hall in that he is a versatile back who can catch passes out of the backfield, which will be particularly important if the Jets bring in a rookie quarterback for next season.

Kay, meanwhile, is projecting that Hall will join the Houston Texans on a four-year, $41 million pact. Hall has made it fairly clear that he isn't exactly loving his time in New York, so even if the Jets would be willing to match that contract, it might not matter.

It's looking like the Jets may have to go in a different direction at running back, and Williams could present them with an intriguing option.
