The New York Jets are in the middle of their rebuild and will have a key free agency decision to make this offseason. Running back Breece Hall's rookie deal is over, and he will enter free agency this offseason.
Hall has been a quality running back for the Jets over his four seasons in the league. This season, he has rushed for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns on 243 carries (4.4 yards per carry). He has also hauled in 36 receptions for 350 yards and a touchdown.
The 24-year-old will have a market besides just returning to New York. In an article by Bleacher Report, they predict Hall to land with the Houston Texans on a four-year $41 million deal.
The deal makes a ton of sense for Houston, as they are a playoff team but could use more offensive talent. They have one of the best defenses in the league, but their offensive inconsistency led to a slow start in 2025.
The Texans haven't had star running back Joe Mixon all season long as he's been out with an injury. Rookie running back Woody Marks has played well, and by bringing in Hall, they could form an elite one-two punch.
For the Jets, this could raise the cost of retaining Hall. New York hasn't been a winning team, which could make a team like Houston more appealing for Hall.
The Jets seem interested in bringing Hall back, as they did not trade him at the deadline despite him being in the final year of his contract.
Losing him would open up another hole for the offense. At the moment, New York has a quality WR 1 in Garrett Wilson, a young tight end in Mason Taylor, and some solid weapons in Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie III.
If the Jets re-sign Hall, they will just need to add a quality quarterback and WR 2 to put together a productive unit. Losing Hall creates another need that the Jets would have to address.
While paying a running back is always a tricky situation, Hall has proven to be a talented rusher and receiver out of the backfield, and the Jets will have competition as they try to bring him back in free agency.
