It's tough to imagine it being this bad.
As the New York Jets prepare to play the New England Patriots on Sunday in Week 6, a lot has to go right for them to come away with a win. History suggests the Jets don't have much of a chance in this game, as disappointing as that might sound.
Against a Patriots team that's just about average to start this year, it's tough to say New York isn't in a position to win, given how it's played, but again, history says it won't get the job done.
For multiple players and coaches in the organization, that's frustrating. That includes Garrett Wilson, who says his team is going to be ready to play and this is a big one because they're already six games into the season now.
"We're six games in; there's a premium on this one because it is our first one, and I don't know how to exactly put it, but it's a big [expletive] game. We're going to be ready to play [and] I'm excited for it."
As for how bad some of that history is in New York, it's almost crazy to think how bad it's been against AFC East teams over the past decade or so.
Even squads like the Miami Dolphins has found success against the Jets, perhaps one of the bigger issues why New York hasn't been able to make the playoffs in quite some time. As for how the Jets have played against the Patriots, that number is about as ugly as anyone could imagine.
The Jets are 2-18 in their last 20 matchups against New England, and while most fans know that it's been bad, it's crazy to look at it like that.
“The Jets are specifically 2-18 in their last 20 matchups against the Patriots. It hasn't been pretty, but everything can change this weekend. If the Jets pull off the upset, they will jump back to .500 at 3-3. Up next? A pair of home games against the Miami Dolphins and Las Vegas Raiders. All of a sudden, the entire tone of your season can change. It all starts in New England against the big bad bully,” SB Nation wrote.
As SB Nation touched on here, there's reason to believe that if the Jets can win this game, they'll put themselves in a good position to possibly win four in a row. After beating the Cleveland Browns in Week 5, a win against the Patriots would then lead them to matchups against the Las Vegas Raiders and Dolphins, two games in which they should win.
