New York Jets rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq has caught his first career receiving touchdown on a 24-yard strike from Geno Smith. It wasn't the first touchdown of Sadiq's career, as he rushed for a score in Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans.

The Jets are hoping to develop Sadiq into their tight end of the future. New York selected him with the 16th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after he had a strong career with the Oregon Ducks.

He had a solid sophomore campaign with the Ducks in 2024, catching 24 passes for 308 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 24 yards on five carries. Sadiq had his breakout year in 2025, as he hauled in 51 receptions for 560 yards and eight touchdowns.

New York added him as a pillar of their offense for the future. He is already showing signs of being a quality weapon in his rookie season. Through the first two games, Sadiq had five receptions for 38 yards, along with one rush for three yards and a touchdown.

He is becoming a bigger part of the Jets' offense every week after missing some time during the offseason with a hernia. Sadiq has had two catches for 28 yards and a touchdown in Week 3 thus far, and he is showcasing that he has the potential to be an elite tight end. 

The Jets offense has been solid to start off the 2026 season. New York struggled mightily in 2025, finishing with a 3-14 record and holding the second overall pick. While the Jets aren't contenders, they are showing signs of improvement.

Veteran Geno Smith joined the team in the offseason, and he has been an upgrade over the production they got at quarterback last season. Through two games, Smith has completed 70.8 percent of his passes for 462 yards, a touchdown, and an interception.

The 35-year-old has been a stable passer, getting the ball to various young weapons, including Garrett Wilson, Adonai Mitchell, and Sadiq.

If Sadiq reaches his full potential and becomes a top tight end, New York will have some great young pass-catchers to build the offense around. Running back Breece Hall has also been impactful, rushing for 131 yards and a touchdown through two games. 

The Jets will hope Sadiq's touchdown grab is the first of many and that he becomes a staple of their offense for the foreseeable future.
