The New York Jets are reportedly interested in a former highly hyped quarterback before Week 1.
The New York Jets are set to kick off the 2026 NFL season on September 13 on the road against the Tennessee Titans. For Aaron Glenn and company, they hope that the year will begin change.
In recent seasons, the Jets have not been anything close to a playoff contender. New York has been stuck in a rut. A lot of those struggles have had to do with the lack of a legitimate starting quarterback.
During the 2026 NFL offseason, the Jets got aggressive. They pulled off a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders to acquire veteran signal caller Geno Smith. He isn't a long-term option, but he's a solid player who should help the team be better.
Leading up to Week 1, New York is reportedly showing interest in another quarterback.
According to a report from Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, the Jets have worked out two quarterbacks on Thursday. Both Jack Plummer and Will Levis were looked at for a potential spot on the practice squad.
"The Jets worked out two QBs today, per source," Rosenblatt wrote on X. "Will Levis. Jack Plummer. It'd be for a spot on the practice squad, I'm told."
Not long ago, Levis was viewed as a potential franchise quarterback for the Titans. He was selected by Tennessee with the No. 33 overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Kentucky.
Unfortunately, things have not gone according to plan for Levis. He has played in 21 games since entering the NFL, completing 61 percent of his passes for 3,899 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. Levis has also picked up 240 yards and scored another touchdown on the ground.
Granted, Levis isn't the name that he once was. He has an uphill battle to fight in order to become a starter in the NFL again. But, for a team like New York who has needed quarterback help, he's worth taking a flier on.
Plummer, on the other hand, has not played in a regular season game in the NFL. Levis would be the much better option between the two quarterbacks.
Only time will tell whether or not the Jets end up signing Levis. He was recently released by the Titans during final roster cuts. It's an interesting storyline worth keeping an eye on for New York fans.
