Dexter Lawrence has requested a trade, and the idea of him being on the move has turned into one of the more interesting storylines in New York. If the New York Giants are even open to listening to offers, there’s reason to believe that the New York Jets could be in play.

While the Jets might not be in a position to land a player of his caliber due to how expensive a trade could get, others think a trade would make a lot of sense.

Michael Nania of Jets X Factor wrote about why this isn’t as crazy as it might seem, noting that the Jets and Giants have made more trades than people think.

“This would not be the first time in the last 10 years that the Jets and Giants executed a trade involving a first-round defensive lineman. Midway through the 2019 season, the Jets sent Leonard Williams to the Giants for a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick It is also worth noting that Jets general manager Darren Mougey has been one of the NFL’s most active traders since he took over the position in 2025, completing 12 trades involving players.

“Given the franchises’ proven willingness to deal with each other (especially regarding premium defensive linemen) and Mougey’s high level of activity on the trade market, it is not far-fetched to think that the Jets will at least give the Giants a call about Lawrence. This is especially true because the Jets have a need for a player like him,” he wrote.

Despite the reality that the Jets and Giants have made trades with each other in the past, it’s important to note that it isn’t like they’re making trades each year. Lawrence is also an incredible player and it’d be an interesting outcome to send him to the other team in the same building.

From a roster standpoint, though, the fit is there. The Jets can use any help they can get on the defensive side of the football and pairing Lawrence with the No. 2 pick, if the Jets go with a defensive player, would change a lot.
