While the New York Jets seem to be rather set at the quarterback position in terms of a starter with Geno Smith, and a potential backup with Cade Klubnik after selecting the former Clemson star, there are still some questions about what the rest of the quarterback room will look like.
Specifically, the Jets could use another veteran backup option.
Reports indicated that the team had some level of interest in Russell Wilson, and it's still certainly possible that Wilson could end up back in New York after spending a year with the New York Giants.
However, other rumors have suggested that he's looking for TV jobs and has been in the mix to land one recently.
Searching for other ways for the Jets to improve on the offensive side of the football with a veteran signal-caller to be a backup, they were recently linked to Cooper Rush, who made his name with the Dallas Cowboys after impressing some as a starter when Dak Prescott went down.
“Another experienced option would be longtime Dallas Cowboys backup quarterback Cooper Rush. The eight-year veteran has 42 appearances in his career and is 9-7 as a starter. His most recent stint with the Baltimore Ravens was not a good one. He started two games for the injured Lamar Jackson and tossed for 303 yards, no touchdowns, and four interceptions. Rush was eventually benched for Snoop Huntley.
“Rush wouldn't be the most talented option for the Jets to add behind Smith, but he would certainly bring a level of stability that they don't currently have,” Charlie Baduini of FanSided wrote.
Rush has been around the NFL for quite some time now, proving that he can be a decent option for a Jets team that's looking for someone to come in and just help out the quarterback room. If Rush is needed, he can start, but he's better off helping guys like Klubnik and Smith when things get tough.
