With the 2026 NFL Draft approaching, the New York Jets have a few different ways they could go about things. The Jets have done what's needed on the trade market in recent months, but that shouldn't stop with the draft coming up.

Nick Faria of JetsxFactor proposed a scenario that would see the Jets be aggressive again, pitching a deal with the Washington Commanders that would send the Jets up from No. 16 to No. 7 overall.

In exchange, New York would give up its first-round pick, its early second-rounder (No. 33), and a 2027 fourth-round selection.

New York has built a roster that’s not close enough to contend at the moment, but that doesn't mean a few right picks in the NFL draft couldn't take them there. The question for the Jets is going to continue to be about their quarterback play, but there's a lot more on this roster that needs to be fixed heading into next season.

“That’s right: A bold move for a second pick inside the top 10 could completely change how the Jets are perceived over the next few years. Remember, outside of their bevy of picks this season, the Jets also possess three first-round picks in 2027. A deal with Washington makes sense for several reasons, including for the Commanders.

"The Commanders, after a dismal season in 2025, own just six draft picks and just two in the first four rounds. The chance to get multiple top talents this year is slim to none for the Burgundy and Gold. If Washington is smart, it should be looking to trade down from the seventh overall pick to accumulate as much draft capital as possible. Like a cold beverage after a long day at work, the Jets might just be the team perfectly situated to “help” Washington out," he wrote.

The Jets have flexibility that most teams don’t and with extra draft capital down the line, they can afford to be aggressive now without really ruining a lot of what they have.

The question for the Jets now would be who they want to select with two top 10 picks. There seem to be some obvious answers for them with the second overall pick, but the other top 10 selection would be a bit difficult to make, just because they have so many needs.
