If the New York Jets want to be the team they’re aiming to become in the future, it will likely require them to go out and add a big-time quarterback.
New York already attempted to do that when it made a trade for Aaron Rodgers just a few years ago, but unfortunately, that didn’t work out for a few different reasons. Rodgers was obviously hurt on the first drive of his time in New York, and the Jets simply weren’t able to get much going after that.
Looking at a potential trade in the future, the Jets have a few options they could eventually explore. That doesn’t mean the organization will be willing to move on from some of their picks in the next few days, but a recent trade proposal would see them do just that in a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Jets receive: QB Jalen Hurts
Eagles receive: Picks No. 2 and No. 16
“This one would be a bit crazy, but that's the point! Jalen Hurts, first and foremost, while a winner, is a very limites quarterback. That statement should not be controversial at all. Where Hurts thrives is with a strong run game, elite offensive line, and an offense that doesn't ask him to do a lot with his right arm. The Philadelphia Eagles, despite Hurts' obvious limitations, have appeared in two Super Bowls since 2022 and won it all back in 2024.
“But at some point, the up-and-down nature of Philly's seasons can't continue. Would the Eagles consider an offer of the New York Jets two first-round picks this year for Hurts? Probably not, as there isn't a clear cut quarterback available to the Eagles, but the value itself of two first-round picks for a limited passer like Hurts would be fair compensation, and from the Jets perspective, they'd get a franchise quarterback and insert him onto an offense with a borderline-elite running back in Breece Hall and an up-and-coming offensive line,” Lou Scataglia wrote.
Now, getting somebody like Hurts on this roster would obviously be a good thing for New York. While Hurts probably isn’t a star like some others around the league who win at the level he does, there’s still something to be said about how much he wins. Whether we want to critique everything he does or not, Hurts has done a great job of getting the job done.
On the flip side of that, it’s important to remember the type of talent he has around him in Philadelphia, and it’s fair to question whether he would have that if he were ever to play in New York.
