There are no excuses.
The New York Jets will have to figure some things out over the next couple of weeks to months, including what they ultimately want to do with head coach Aaron Glenn.
I still believe firing Glenn right now doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but if that's the direction the Jets want to go, nobody can blame them.
At the end of the day, the Jets brought in Glenn to have an above-average defense and win games at a high level.
To say he hasn't done that would be an understatement, as New York is once again 1-3, despite playing some better football.
When we compare Glenn's record to other second-year head coaches, the numbers become eye-opening. It's rather unfortunate that the Jets seemingly didn't get another hire right, at least in the immediate term. That doesn't mean Glenn can't be a great head coach one day, but time is running out.
If there's one thing in his favor, it's that Glenn will have an opportunity to turn this around over the next couple of weeks.
The Jets have a somewhat easier schedule than they did at the start of the season, taking on teams like the Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, and a New England Patriots team that doesn't look too great after being in the Super Bowl a year ago.
“They have lost 17 of 21 games under Glenn, who is trying to eradicate the losing mentality that has enveloped the franchise for years. The fanbase has turned on Glenn, once a popular player for the Jets, and he needs to come up with answers -- quickly.
“After going 0-3 against the NFC North, the Jets have reached the so-called "soft" part of their schedule -- but it's not nearly as soft as it appeared to be in August. They host the Cleveland Browns (3-1) on Sunday, followed by a road game against the New England Patriots (2-2), followed by home dates with the Miami Dolphins (0-4) and Las Vegas Raiders (3-1). The Raiders and Browns, both led by first-year coaches, are among the year's biggest surprises. Still, these are games the Jets can't afford to squander,” Rich Cimini wrote.
Not to say these games will be easy, as the Browns and Raiders have played very good football this season, but the Jets are already favored over the Browns, so there's reason to believe they can come away with a win. That Dolphins game is a must-win, as Miami is arguably the worst team in the NFL.
The Patriots have given the Jets a lot of trouble over the past decade-plus, so it'll be interesting to see what happens.
