It’s been three games in the NFL season, and currently, the quarterback situation amongst Gang Green is still up in the air.
Justin Fields looked like a quality quarterback in the first game against his old team in the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the following game against the Buffalo Bills was a total disaster until he suffered a concussion.
So, will the real Justin Fields please stand up? We still don’t know what to expect from him. But coach Aaron Glenn announced that he will return on Monday night against the Dolphins.
But just in case Fields doesn’t live up to the expectations set for him this season, tonight’s game in Happy Valley features two extremely promising quarterbacks in Drew Allar and Dante Moore.
Allar helped lead the Penn State Nittany Lions last season to the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs.
From an NFL prospect standpoint, Allar fits the bill.
Standing atop 6-foot-5, 240 pounds, he’s the ideal size for an NFL quarterback, but his inconsistency raises a few red flags.
His completion percentage last season was 66.5%, but if you look at his game log, you can see that that number fluctuated depending on the opponent.
It’s clear he can dominate the lower level competition, but he struggles when facing a power school.
From his games against Ohio State, Oregon, SMU, Boise State, and Notre Dame – all teams that made the College Football Playoffs, he didn’t register a completion percentage above 60%.
To start the season, it was a rather alarming start. Penn State dominated, but Allar was unspectacular. This season in his battles against FIU and FCS Villanova, his completion percentage was at 57.6% and 55.2% respectively, including an interception against Nova.
On the other side, Moore is a highly intriguing prospect.
Through four games, Moore has elevated his game from his mediocre freshman season while playing for UCLA.
He’s completing passes at a staggering 74.7% rate, throwing 11 touchdowns and only one interception.
Not only that, he’s proven to be a viable dual threat, while running for 6.2 yards per carry, which may seem more intriguing for the Jets.
New York has been begging for a legitimate quarterback for over a decade. Even when it made the AFC Championship two seasons in a row with Mark Sanchez, it still didn’t seem like Sanchez was “the guy.”
The Jets are still looking for “the guy,” and so far, even though Fields has a small sample size, Jets fans have seen this show before, and you can hear a collective groan across the tri-state area.
Stay tuned for Oregon vs Penn State, and see which quarterback moves up (or down) in the 2026 draft ranks.
