A lot of guys are fighting for jobs right now with the New York Jets, and while that's often viewed as a bad thing, I actually think it is a very promising sign for an organization that can use as much talent as possible.
The Jets have a lot of talent, and as a result, some of these guys might not be on the roster in the future. Hopefully, that doesn't mean the Jets just cut ties with them, and instead, do what they have to do to move on from certain players in trades that can bring them back relatively decent returns.
One of those guys is Braelon Allen, a young running back who many in the Jets organization have spoken highly of over the past few years.
Allen, who unfortunately went down with a tough injury last year, is still viewed as the RB2 on this roster.
Because of that injury, however, there are certainly more questions than answers at the moment, which has led one writer to suggest he could be traded or end up winning his job, depending on what happens over the next few months.
“While a potential trade of one of those two RBs is not out of the question, Allen has a case to remain Hall's backup. Davis might have the versatility of making an impact in the passing game, but Allen has shown a tenacity to be able to thrive in short-yardage situations and give the Jets someone they can go to in relief of Hall.
“He also rushed for 334 yards and two TDs, in addition to 148 receiving yards and a TD, during his 2024 rookie campaign. The starting role is clearly locked up with Hall, but if Allen can outshine Davis in OTAs and get back up to speed following the injury that cut his 2025 season short, he can go from someone on the trade block to a go-to backup like he is currently listed as,” Colby Colwell wrote.
If the competition comes down to Allen and Isaiah Davis, I'm definitely going to give the advantage to Allen. It's possible that Davis has a better training camp and does more throughout the offseason, but I think Allen is a better player here, and given how young he is, it's better to go with him over Davis right now.
