There’s been a lot of worry about the New York Jets and their long-term direction, and frankly, it’s understandable given how the last decade-plus has played out.
Jets fans have been rightfully worried about the direction of the organization, and until they show otherwise, fans should continue to be worried.
With the team now showing it is willing and wants to keep Aaron Glenn as its head coach, there have rightfully been some questions. However, former Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum thinks fans should feel a lot better about where things are headed than in the past.
Speaking recently with Fox News Digital, Tannenbaum had a lot to say about the future of the team, and everything was positive.
“It was great to be part of the search a year ago. It was a great, great experience. And I think Aaron Glenn’s going to be a really good coach long term,” Tannenbaum said. “I'm not part of the organization, obviously, so it wouldn’t be fair for me to comment on what they should or should not, but I very much believe in Aaron Glenn and think he'll be a good coach long term.
“One of the things that I think they deserve credit is they clearly have a long-term plan, without question, in terms of the picks, the draft capital, and I think Aaron Glenn and (general manager) Darren Mougey will continue to execute the plan, and hopefully, you'll see the results quickly in 2026.”
Tannenbaum believes this version of the Jets finally looks aligned, from the front office to the coaching staff, something we haven’t seen in a long time.
I’d like to play devil's advocate, though. I think we all know that if Glenn has a bad season next year, he’ll be down.
Glenn is a good guy and might be a very good coach, but there will be arguments about his being better suited as a coordinator.
Darren Mougey has some questions to answer, too, but I like what he did at the trade deadline.
Of course, belief alone doesn’t win games. Results still matter, and Glenn will ultimately be judged by what happens on Sundays.
However, hearing a former Jets decision-maker publicly back the hire helps us believe the idea that this isn’t another short-term experiment.
For a fanbase dying for wins, that might be the most encouraging part of all.
