Reports indicated that the New York Jets offered Russell Wilson a contract just a few days ago, with Wilson himself even stating that he was offered a contract by New York.
However, the veteran quarterback and former star for the Seattle Seahawks later added that he was uncertain about what he would do for the remainder of his NFL career, questioning whether he wanted to get into the media side of things, as he also has offers on the table on that end.
While there seemed to be an offer, at least from Wilson's perspective, it was recently reported by The Athletic that there doesn't seem to be any offer on the table just yet.
“The Jets hosted veteran quarterback Russell Wilson for a visit last week and viewed him as a potential option to back up Geno Smith — an option approved by Smith himself based on their time playing together (and serving in reverse roles) with the Seattle Seahawks. Despite Wilson recently suggesting the Jets made him an offer, I am not under the impression that the Jets were planning on signing him as of now. He is one of multiple options they are considering, including a scenario where they don’t add anyone else, at least for this portion of the offseason…
“Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook are the other quarterbacks currently on the roster. It’s still possible Wilson winds up here, but it’s not something I would predict as of now,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic wrote.
As Rosenblatt touched on, it's encouraging to hear that the Jets are at least still somewhat interested in adding another quarterback, though that doesn't necessarily mean it will be Wilson.
Wilson has proven over the past few years that he's not anything like he used to be, so unless New York wants to do him a favor and bring him on to be the backup, I feel like it has a lot of better options.
