This is concerning.
The New York Jets announced bad Kenyon Sadiq news again.
Sadiq, who underwent hernia surgery in May, suffered a "little setback" and will be out "a little bit," per head coach Aaron Glenn.
The Jets took Sadiq with the 16th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft out of Oregon.
For Oregon in 2025, Sadiq had 51 receptions for 560 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns. He finished his college career with 80 receptions for 892 receiving yards and 11 receiving touchdowns in 42 games.
Sadiq was named a second-team All-American and the Big Ten TE of the Year and was a finalist for the John Mackey Award, which goes to the nation's top tight end.
"When he had the surgery -- I mean, most guys, they usually get both [sides] done," Glenn said. "That's how many doctors do it. So I'm not real worried, but I think I want to make sure that I make the right decision and make sure I take care of him so he can be ready for the season."
The Jets went 3-14 last season. They took Texas Tech's David Bailey with the second overall pick in this year's draft.
The Jets have good depth at tight end, with Mason Taylor, Jeremy Ruckert and Jelani Woods, but Sadiq provides a different dimension because of his rare speed. He ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the February combine, breaking the 20-year-old record set by Vernon Davis (4.40) in 2006.
It certainly appears that Sadiq could miss at least a chunk of the preseason. That's not ideal for a rookie.
The Jets went just 3-14 last season. They became the first team in NFL history to not record a defensive interception and lose five straight games by 23 or more points within a single season.
Whenever Sadiq is cleared to play, he'll catch passes from Geno Smith. The Jets acquired Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders.
