At 12:00 PM Eastern Time today, the NFL opened up its legal tampering period. This means that while no deals can be officially signed, they can certainly be agreed to. The league wasted no time in getting the festivities started today with a whirlwind of news.
One team that should look to be very active today is the New York Jets. They have holes all over the roster and are playing with some of the most cap space in the league this offseason.
They'll be pairing that with 11 total draft picks as well, but with the Jets being one of the youngest teams in the NFL, it would be wise on the part of the organization to sign some veteran players as well this offseason.
They started off the morning trading for veteran safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, which was a move that nobody saw coming. Through the rest of the day, they've signed some other key veteran defensive players, one of them including an old friend of head coach Aaron Glenn.

Mandatory Credit: Steve Roberts-Imagn ImagesIt was announced today that the New York Jets are signing 14-year NFL veteran LB Demario Davis to a 2-year $22 million contract.
Davis has played for quite some time in the league. He spent five of his first six years with the Jets, where he totalled over 100 tackles in 3 of them. Since 2018, he's been a consistent presence with the Saints defense, with arguably his best seasons coming in 2022 and 2023.
Aaron Glenn was a defensive assistant with the Saints as their defensive backs coach from 2016-2020, so he and Demario Davis will be reunited in New York.
This is exactly the type of signing that the Jets should have made. They'll be able to draft many more pieces on this defense, but you can't have a team full of rookies just running around. They need the structure and guidance of a proven NFL veteran, and that's exactly what Davis is.
Based on the signings so far today, nobody should have the Jets in Super Bowl conversations, but the defense is already shaping up to be far more competent than last year's unit.
