A past New York Jets blunder has been rehashed following one of their NFL Draft picks on Thursday night.
The New York Jets made a pair of picks in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday night, selecting Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey at No. 2 and then nabbing Oregon tight end Kenyon Sadiq at No. 16.
The Bailey pick was expected, and while the Sadiq selection should not come as a surprise given the Jets' need for an elite weapon, many felt that New York would take a wide receiver with its second first-round draft choice.
The Jets' decision to net Sadiq also brought back some old memories ... and not good ones. Sadiq's arrival marked New York's earliest selection of a tight end since 1999, when the Jets took Penn State's Kyle Brady ninth overall.
The good news? Sadiq is absolutely nothing like Brady.
Sadiq was the consensus best tight end in this draft class all along and might end up being one of the best players from the class, period.
Not only is the 6-foot-3, 241-pound weapon an athletic freak, but he is also a willing and fantastic blocker, which is incredibly wear for a playmaker of his ability.
Sadiq hauled in 51 receptions for 560 yards and eight touchdowns during his final season at Oregon, leading the Ducks in catches.
He arrived it Eugene in 2023 and began earning significant playing time during his second season, when he caught 24 passes for 308 yards and a couple of scores.
Sadiq ran a ridiculous 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the Scouting Combine, breaking Vernon Davis' record for the fastest time for a tight end.

The Jets did select Mason Taylor in last year's draft, but Sadiq is the far superior talent, and New York could employ some two tight-end sets, anyway.
So while memories of Brady may be surfacing in the minds of Jets fans, they can rest easy knowing that Sadiq is a completely different player and was a terrific selection for Gang Green.
New York knocked its first two picks of the draft out of the park. Now, things will get harder as the Jets attempt to fill out the rest of their roster on Days 2 and 3.
