The New York Jets went 3-14 in Year 1 of the Aaron Glenn era. They became the first team in NFL history to not record a defensive interception and lose five straight games by 23 or more points within a single season.
Many Jets fans wanted owner Woody Johnson to fire Glenn after the 2025 season, but Glenn will be back. After what happened at the NFL Combine, Glenn's seat with the fans will only grow hotter.
Why? Because Glenn fell asleep.
There's no way around this. This is a terrible look for Glenn, who claims to be passionate about turning around the franchise he played for. How can you be passionate if you are falling asleep at the job?
New York's new DC is former Miami Dolphins assistant Brian Duker. However, Glenn will call defensive plays next season. He explained why at the NFL Combine before he fell asleep.
"First and foremost is how I'm going to be with the defense and I will be the playcaller. To me, play-calling is my superpower," Glenn said. "I did it four years in Detroit and, man, just look at the maturation of how we improved every year and how I improved as a playcaller. I really missed doing that, and I think it's a huge part of helping us become the team that I and Mouge [GM Darren Mougey] see and that [owner] Woody [Johnson] sees us becoming."
Glenn, for the first time publicly, explained his rationale for going in a different direction after moving on from his first DC, Steve Wilks, late last season.
"I think that's one of the mistakes that I had last year," Glenn said. "You hire a coordinator and bring in the guys you feel comfortable with. That hasn't changed, but man, there were a lot of conversations between me and each coach to make sure there was synergy between me and that coach. So I feel very comfortable with that."
If Glenn doesn't do well in 2026, he will likely get fired next offseason.
The Jets have the second pick in this year's NFL Draft. They are expected to draft a QB.
