The New York Jets are in dire need of a quarterback heading into the offseason, a problem that was compounded by Dante Moore deciding to stay at Oregon.
Now, the Jets won't be able to use the No. 2 overall pick of the NFL Draft on a quarterback. They could always trade down for one or simply nab a signal-caller at No. 16, but whether or not Ty Simpson or Trinidad Chambliss are worth such a high draft choice is debatable.
New York could always explore the trade market to find a veteran under center, and Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine has linked the Jets to a pretty intriguing option: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Mac Jones.
"Mac Jones could be the next reclamation project who actually turns out to be a good starter," Ballentine wrote. "He was 5-3 as the starter for the 49ers this season, filling in admirably when Brock Purdy went down with an injury."
During his time with San Francisco in 2025, Jones threw for 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 69.6 percent of his passes and posting a 97.4 passer rating.

The 27-year-old was originally selected by the New England Patriots with the 15th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft and actually made the Pro Bowl after an impressive rookie campaign, but things went downhill from there.
Jones struggled during his sophomore season, and by Year 3, he had been benched in favor of Bailey Zappe. That resulted in the Patriots trading Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars that ensuing offseason, where he spent one year.
The University of Alabama product actually received significant playing time with the Jaguars in 2024 thanks to an injury to Trevor Lawrence, but he labored, tossing eight touchdowns and eight picks in 10 games and seven starts.
Whether or not Jones actually has what it takes to become a regular starter on the professional level remains to be seen, and I'm not so sure the Jets should be the team that decides to take that risk.
The 49ers won't just give Jones away, so New York would have to part with some decent draft capital to land him.
