The New York Jets have been considered a landing spot for a QB who made only 15 starts.

The New York Jets have the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. They also have the 16th pick and one analyst thinks New York should target a college QB who made only 15 starts.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report considers the Jets a landing spot for Alabama QB Ty Simpson.

"This offseason, the New York Jets reunited with Geno Smith, acquiring him from the Las Vegas Raiders," Moton wrote. "The Raiders will pay $16.2 million of his $19.5 million salary this year. General manager Darren Mougey can roll the dice on a young signal-caller while his team starts a low-cost veteran placeholder.

"Equipped with two first-rounders, the Jets can take the best prospect available with the No. 2 overall pick and then take Simpson at 16. Gang Green could come out of Day 1 with arguably the best defensive player in the class and its future starting quarterback, which would be a strong haul.

"Although Smith would likely start this year, he's 34 and will try to rebound from his worst statistical season as a starter since his first stint with the Jets. If the 13-year veteran continues in a downward spiral, Simpson could see the field by the end of the 2026 campaign in New York."

For Alabama last season, Simpson put up 3,567 passing yards and 28 passing touchdowns. He completed 64.5% of his passes.

Simpson finished his college career with 3,948 passing yards and 28 passing touchdowns. If the Jets take him at No. 16, he can sit behind Smith and then play toward the end of the 2026 season once New York gets eliminated from the playoffs.

Smith enters next season with 22,168 passing yards, 124 passing touchdowns and 89 career interceptions in the NFL. His starting record is 42-56-0. The Jets are in deep rebuild mode. They will likely have a terrible record again next season, paving the way for Simpson to play early in his NFL career.

It will be fascinating to see who the Jets take with the second and 16th pick. If Simpson is there at 16, New York should strike.
