The New York Jets have the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and they are expected to select a QB.
The Las Vegas Raiders have the first pick and they will likely draft Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.
NFL analyst Alex Kay of Bleacher Report hopes Mendoza lands with the Raiders because he doesn't think the college football superstar can have success with the Jets.
New York hasn't had a franchise quarterback since Joe Namath.
"Mendoza should have breathed a sigh of relief when the New York Jets failed to land the No. 1 overall pick," Kay wrote. "The organization has effectively become a graveyard littered with promising quarterback prospects who haven't panned out.
"While the Jets are most likely to stand pat and take Oregon's Dante Moore at No. 2 overall, the Raiders would at least have to entertain a Godfather offer from Gang Green that includes their first-round selection as well as additional premium picks in both the 2026 and future drafts.
"If that were to happen, Mendoza's unique talents would run serious risk of being wasted in the Big Apple. The long-suffering Jets have drafted four quarterbacks with top-40 picks over the last two decades, none of whom panned out as promised."
The Jets have been a walking disaster for so long. The Raiders haven't been that much better, but they now have NFL legend Tom Brady running the show there.
Kay trusts Brady more than the Jets to develop Mendoza.
Under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn, the Jets became the first team in NFL history to not record a defensive interception and lose five straight games by 23 or more points within a single season.
New York was 29th in the NFL in points per game and 31st in points per game allowed.
The Jets were projected to select Dante Moore with the second pick in the 2026 draft, but the youngster is heading back to Oregon.
New York started three QBs this season: Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor and Brady Cook. All three guys played poorly.
Fields, Taylor and Cook combined for 2,777 passing yards and 14 touchdown passes.
It will be fascinating to see who is starting at QB for the Jets next season. The franchise desperately needs a star at the position.
