Among the many options the New York Jets have to decide on, safety Andre Cisco’s future with the team appears to be heading toward an offseason split, with free agency likely to move the 25-year-old elsewhere as the organization needs to improve its secondary.
According to The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, a reunion between Cisco and the Jets isn’t expected as the team looks to get better on that side of the football.
“No. 6. S Andre Cisco (age 25),” Rosenblatt wrote. “The Athletic had Cisco 76th in its free agency rankings last year and he probably has the same level of stock heading into this offseason, though he is coming off a pectoral injury that cost him nine games. And before the injury, it’s not as if he was performing at his 2023 level (when he had four interceptions for the Jacksonville Jaguars). The Jets’ secondary was wildly inconsistent, with and without him.
“He’ll still only be 26 when next season begins and was solid as a run stopper before his injury, though in coverage he allowed 14 catches on 17 targets with three touchdowns. He can be a starting-caliber safety when he’s healthy, which is enough to draw interest in free agency. He’s unlikely to return as the Jets revamp their safety room.”
Cisco’s injury-shortened season couldn’t have come at a worse time. Heading into free agency at his age, he could’ve been a player who got paid somewhat handsomelyhad he
When healthy, Cisco has been a decent player, though this injury will likely hurt him in free agency. Rosenblatt believes he’ll be somewhere around the 75-mark in terms of players on the market, so he should still be more than fine to get a deal.
Age will also work in Cisco’s favor on the open market. Entering his age-26 season, he’s still viewed as a starting-caliber player when fully healthy. Teams looking for a starter without having to commit long-term top-tier money could see him as a buy-low option.
For the Jets, they should even consider a reunion if the price makes sense. Cisco, however, might want to play for a team with a chance to win.
