New York Jets Insider Reports Huge Defensive Coordinator News cover image

The New York Jets may hire their new DC soon.

According to New York Jets insider Connor Hughes of SNY, Wink Martindale is flying to New York today to have an in-person interview with the Jets for their DC job.

Multiple people around the NFL believe Martindale is the favorite to get the job.

Martindale has coached the Denver Broncos, Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants as a DC. He was in college at Michigan as their DC this season.

New York went 3-14 this season under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. The team was horrendous on both sides of the ball.

How inadequate, you ask? The Jets became the first team in NFL history to not record a defensive interception and lose five straight games by 23 or more points within a single season.

New York was 29th in the league in points per game and 31st in points per game allowed.

"I understand what everybody on the outside is saying," Glenn said. "I'm going to take all those arrows, and that's OK, because I do know this: It's going to turn. And I'm confident in that. ... Just trust me. I know it's hard to say, but trust me and have faith in what we're doing."

New York's three wins this season came against the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons. Glenn and Co. have the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft and are widely expected to select a QB.

"Compatibility is just as important as coachability," Glenn said at the Jets' season-ending news conference. "So, I want to make sure we see things the same way and I want to make sure that we can vibe as far as sitting down and talking about how we see football."

Glenn better have a big turnaround in 2026. Otherwise, he could get fired.

Hiring Martindale should help the Jets' defense become better. The '23 Giants tied for the league lead with 31 takeaways.
