New York Jets Linked to 1,000-Yard Breakout WR Who Would Help Offense cover image

The New York Jets have many questions to answer this offseason, but there are certain issues far more important than others, especially offensively.

Garrett Wilson has proven he can be a true No. 1 receiver, producing despite brutal play at quarterback and not many other threats. Wilson didn’t play for much of the season and still led the team in yards, a major issue.

That’s why adding another decent wide receiver makes a lot of sense, even if it isn’t a star.

Nick Faria of Jets X-Factor believes one potential option could be Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce, a player who is coming off the best season of his career.

“The 2022 second-round pick has established himself as one of the league’s premier deep threats. Pierce led the league in yards per reception in each of the last two seasons and is coming off his first career 1,000-yard season. With plenty of questions to answer across their roster, the Colts may be willing to let Pierce walk in free agency to a team that is eager to overpay him, such as the Jets. That’s okay for New York, though.

“Desperate for playmakers to take attention off of Garrett Wilson, the Jets’ offense would benefit immensely from adding Pierce,” he wrote.

For a team expected to bring in a new quarterback once again, having players to make plays will be important. A receiver who can make plays when it matters most and open up the rest of the offense would be a nice step for the Jets.

However, there’s risk involved. Pierce has never played like he just did, and paying big money for someone who needs to show more could end up being a bad decision.

However, the Jets aren’t in a position to be cheap. If they want someone, they’ll likely have to overpay.

Pairing Pierce with Wilson would certainly be exciting, but it’s important to remember the quarterback situation. If the Jets don’t have a QB who can get them the football, there might not be much of a reason to bring Pierce in.

For an offense searching for help and desperately needing big plays, Pierce might be a nice addition if other moves are made.
