The New York Jets are still searching for a long-term answer at quarterback, and finding a younger option seems to be in the plans. Whether that means drafting a rookie or going with a in a trade that’s in his 20s, there are many ways to go here.
The Jets could also trade in many ways, as they have multiple high-end picks and late-round picks.
Regarding names, Connor Long believes that Joe Milton is a name worth watching as a potential target. Milton was with the New England Patriots but was traded to the Dallas Cowboys last offseason.
“Joe Milton is one of the most fascinating options the Jets could pursue. A sixth-round pick by the New England Patriots in 2024, the Tennessee product hasn’t gotten a fair opportunity to prove his worth at the NFL level.... In April 2025, Milton was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a seventh-round pick.
“He spent the 2025 season in a backup role with Dallas behind Dak Prescott, where he didn’t make a start but appeared in four games. In his appearances, Milton completed 15 of 24 passing attempts (62.5%) for 183 yards (7.6 yards per attempt), a touchdown, and two interceptions. At 6-foot-5 and 246 pounds, Milton possesses a massive frame, video-game-esque arm strength, and hyper-athleticism. If the Jets are interested, they could most likely acquire the quarterback in exchange for some late-round draft capital while essentially treating him like a rookie,” he wrote.
The best part about this, New York wouldn’t need to give up much to acquire him, likely another late-round pick. There’s also the side of it that he’s still rather young, so he’d be a development option to learn behind Geno Smith.
At this point, the Jets have to do what they think is best and go from there. They’ve tried a lot in recent years and none of it has worked out. Sadly, there’s not much else for them to do but go out and keep trying to make the best possible move, no matter what it is.
Who knows what can work some day?
