Should the New York Jets make this trade with the Tennessee Titans?
Former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh is the new head coach of the Tennessee Titans and NFL writer Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report proposed that the Jets and Titans make a trade this offseason.
Ballentine believes the Jets should trade Jermaine Johnson to the Titans for a 2026 third-round pick (No. 66) and a 2027 fifth-round pick.
"Jermaine Johnson looked like a first-round pick in his second season in 2023. Then Jets head coach Robert Saleh helped him put together a Pro Bowl season with 7.5 sacks," Ballentine wrote. "Since then, it's been a winding road for Johnson in New York. He tore his Achilles in 2024 and came back with three sacks in 14 games last season. There's some risk in betting that he can return back to the pre-injury version of himself.
"But Saleh and the Titans are well-positioned to take that risk. They need to find some foundational pieces to build around and Johnson still has that kind of upside. A reunion with Saleh could be just what both parties need. Johnson is set to play on the club option year of his rookie contract, but doesn't have an extension yet. The Jets are still establishing their identity under Aaron Glenn. If they don't feel like signing him to an extension is worth the risk, then flipping him for two picks might make sense."
The Jets and Titans combined to win six games in 2025. Johnson played in 14 games for New York this season. He had three sacks, 22 solo tackles, five tackles for loss and six QB hits.
Johnson made the Pro Bowl 2023. Who was his coach that season? It was none other than Saleh.
The Jets are in deep rebuild mode. They might as well trade Johnson and acquire more future draft picks. The Titans are rebuilding, too, but they already have a QB in Cam Ward, so they may have a quicker turnaround than New York.
Aaron Glenn's Jets have the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. They are widely expected to either draft a QB or trade for a QB this offseason.
It will be fascinating to see who is starting at QB for New York next season and if Johnson gets traded this offseason.
