The New York Jets have a new OC and QB: Frank Reich and Geno Smith.

The New York Jets' offense is going to look a lot different next season.

Frank Reich is the new OC. He replaces Tanner Engstrand.

Meanwhile, Geno Smith is the new QB. He's replacing Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor.

Reich spoke to Jets reporters on Wednesday for the first time since getting hired by Aaron Glenn and the veteran said he can't wait to work with Smith, who began his NFL career with New York.

"I think he fits perfect," Reich said, via Jets.com. "I've liked Geno from Day 1. When he was coming out of West Virginia I had a high grade on Geno. I'd not met Geno before here and I'm kind of glad because I'm even more impressed with him now meeting him in person. I feel his resilience, his toughness, I always think the No. 1 attribute in any quarterback that you need, especially if you want to come and turn something around, is you need someone who's tough. I mean tough mentally, tough physically, and I feel that from Geno on every front."

Smith's best seasons in the NFL came with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022 and 2023. He made the Pro Bowl in 2022 and 2023 and won the 2022 AP Comeback Player of the Year Award.

But because Smith's lone season with the Las Vegas Raiders was a disaster, many people believe the Jets traded for a "washed" QB.

Reich, though, believes Smith's best football is still in front of him.

"I think his experience, the ups and downs that he's been through, and he's had great success, and had to deal with some tough seasons," Reich said of Smith. "And if you play in this league long enough, everyone's going to face that. And if you are the person, if you're the right kind of leader, then you come out of it better, and I think that's the version of Geno Smith we're getting. We're getting the best version of who he is and I think his best football is ahead of him."

Smith enters next season with 22,168 passing yards, 124 passing touchdowns and 89 career interceptions in the NFL. His starting record is 42-56-0.
