The New York Jets have landed a new prediction to bring in the franchise quarterback they have long needed.
It has been a long time since the New York Jets were viewed as a serious Super Bowl threat. One of the main reasons for their lack of success has been quarterback play.
Over the years, the Jets have been searching to find a legitimate long-term franchise quarterback. To this point, they have been unable to accomplish that goal.
During the 2026 NFL offseason, New York pulled off a trade to acquire veteran signal caller Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders. He will begin the season as the starter, but there is no long-term potential. At 35 years old, Smith is a solid short-term starter.
Looking ahead to the 2027 NFL Draft, many believe that the Jets will target finding their franchise quarterback.
With that being said, a new prediction has been made that would see New York potentially find its guy.
Sports Illustrated's Gilbert Manzano has predicted that the Jets will land Notre Dame standout quarterback CJ Carr in the 2027 draft. He made that prediction in a new mock draft that was released on August 21.
An important note is that Manzano has New York landing Carr with the pick it acquired from the Indianapolis Colts in the Sauce Gardner trade.
"The Jets’ patient approach pays off here. They got their defensive cornerstone with the sixth pick and now land a potential franchise quarterback in Carr, who showed real promise in his first starting season with touch and accuracy," Manzano wrote.
"However, the 6'2", 215-pound signal-caller needs to show more growth this season to hold off the other quarterback prospects such as Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker and USC’s Jayden Maiava."
Carr is coming off of a big-time year with the Fighting Irish in 2025. He looked the part of a future NFL quarterback.
Throughout the course of the season, Carr completed 66.6 percent of his pass attempts for 2,741 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also scored threre more touchdowns on the ground.
No young quarterback is a sure thing. The Jets have drafted many young quarterbacks, but they simply haven't panned out. Carr could be just another name on that list.
Despite that fact, he appears to have strong potential for the future. If New York has a chance to take him in the first round of the 2027 NFL Draft, he would be a risk worth taking.
