New York Jets Predicted to Make Very Questionable Breece Hall Decision cover image

The New York Jets are entering an offseason filled with questions, and while a lot of it is due to the quarterback situation, it’s not just about the quarterback position or how quickly things will change.

There are other roster questions at play, including what the future looks like for one of the best offensive players on the team.

Breece Hall has been a centerpiece of the Jets’ offense since the moment he arrived, arguably the best player on the unit when healthy.

However, as the organization continues its reset under Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey, Hall’s long-term future in New York isn’t as simple as it once was.

According to Lucas Hutcherson of SNY, the Jets are facing a weird situation with Hall due to running backs’ contracts.

“It seems likely that the Jets would love to have Hall back and they have the resources to offer him a lot of money to return. However, there’s sure to be a market for Hall, who may favor a change of scenery and a chance to play for a current contender rather than a rebuilding team,” Hutcherson wrote.

Hall is still in his prime, and running backs don’t often get multiple shots at big contracts, so he’ll be looking to get paid.

Hutcherson previewed some options available to the Jets, even if they’re not in Hall’s favor.

“In theory, the Jets could apply the franchise tag and either compel Hall to play under that for 2026 or use that to receive some compensation for losing him via trade. However, that could get messy which might be something that the Jets would prefer to avoid, given their ongoing attempts to turn around the perception of the organization.”

While Hall has been productive when healthy, teams around the NFL have shown that they’re hesitant to pay them as much as they want to be paid.

That’s why Hutcherson ultimately believes the Jets are headed toward a tough but realistic outcome.

“In the end, the most likely outcome is that Hall will sign for another team, so the Jets will have one more position to fill during the offseason.”

If that prediction happens, the Jets will be in a weird position in another spot, but it can work out if they do what’s needed in other areas.
